Page not found, or 404 errors, are part of the World Wide Web. Eventually, because of human or programming error, or a typo from the visitor, either the website or a search engine will offer a link to a resource in the website that no longer exists.

A custom 404 error page allows considerably improving the user experience on any website, especially an e-commerce website, as it can be used to:

1. Show a friendly message to the visitor, adapted to the type and personality of website.
2. Offer alternatives to the visitor, such as going back to the home page or going to the list of products and services.

To customise such web page the usual content editor is used, which you can access by following these steps:

1. Access your control panel with the credentials of your administrator user.
2. Load a path that you know does not exist, for instance mydomain.com/en/boats/the-spinacher.
3. Click on the blue "Edit" button you will find on the top right side of the page.
4. Use the content structure menu in the top right corner of the page.

However, the page title of the 404 error page has to be changed from the control panel of the website. Follow these steps to modify it:

1. Go to Popeye Resources: Custom messages.
2. For each language, scroll down until you find the Errors section and click Show.
3. Insert the string you want as page title in the Title tag error 404 field and save the changes.

Moreover, there is also the possibility to consult the list of 404 errors that have occurred in the website. That is done by going to the control panel menu option labeled "Errors 404". The listing includes date, language and the path of the error, and allows filtering by those three fields.
